Adopt-a-Platoon

How AdoptaPlatoon Started

Ida Hagg founded AdoptaPlatoon while her son, Chauncey, was an Army Soldier deployed to the Balkans. After sending him letters and packages from her Texas home, he asked her to “adopt” nine of his fellow battle buddies who "never received mail from home". These soldiers were young...18 and 19-year-olds who needed to know that they were not forgotten by a grateful Nation.

Later, her son’s commanding officer wrote to tell her how much the mail had lifted not only the spirits of those 9 young soldiers, but also the morale of the entire platoon and he asked she would “adopt” his entire platoon.

From that humble start in 1998, AAP has grown so that now we can say, "Over 200,000 U.S. Service Members have been served". In 2009, $2,180,299.00 was spent on Troops Services to meet our mission. This has only been possible because of the kindness, generosity, gratitude and love of the American people!

Welcome to the TriLakes Networking Team Community Blog!

Our fair/fundraiser committee had their first meeting to work out the plans for our first fair/fundraiser of the year. We are very excited about all the possiblities and we will be working hard in the days ahead with our planning and preparation to make sure that this event is a huge success. The date for this event is Sunday, Nov 7th so pencil it in now! We have decided to do something that I think most of us have been affected by especially living here in this military community. Our event will be called, A Patriotic Christmas Marketplace--Caring for Our Local Soldiers. We will be asking for donations of items to pack up Christmas care packages for our soldiers out in Iraq and Afganistan when you come to shop. We will be utilizing an organiztion called Adopt-a-Platoon to get the addresses of some platoons stationed in our area. We will have a wrapping station with local volunteer teenagers who will wrap up each donation to be placed in the multiple large flat rate USPS boxes. We will have a bake sale that we will use the proceeds from to help pay for the shipment of all the care packages we can fill. We will have door prizes throughout the day to give away to lucky winners who are in attendance to win. It sounds like at this point we can have well over 30+ vendors at our location which will be announced once it is finalized. Please share this event with everyone you know and help us fill lots and lots of care packages to send to our soldiers so they know we love them and have not forgotten their sacrfice in being away from home. A list of all items that are acceptable for donations for these care packages will be posted here as soon as possible.
